There are 4 Types of Social Nervous System. Developmentally, the Social Nervous System is in place before the personality develops. It is one of the foundations upon which personality is built but it is NOT personality... This is biological, neurological, and it is also environmental in it's development. This comes from Neurosomatic Integration developed by Dr. Mark Filippi, my business partner and pal.
PHYLO: Think of a baby. Babies bond…that’s what they do. Those of us who are PHYLOs get our COHERENCE from our relationships with other people. Our eyes will draw you in and make you feel comfortable and/or safe.
ONTO: Think terrible 2’s. These are the tantrum throwers. They are strong leaders, very creative and they have VERY strong belief systems. They get their COHERENCE from themselves. Their eyes come right after you.
ECO: Think 3 year old. ECO’s are moving on…they have trouble committing to things, often run late (because they “lose track of time” or “get distracted”). They are very EMPATHIC, and have many extra-personal relationships. ECO eyes are hard to get a bead on and will sometimes seem to be in motion.
EXO: This is the 4 year old's domain. The 4 year old can now understand that there is a future and a past. They understand consequences. They may begin to manipulate situations to their advantage. EXO’s have a utopian vision of the world and become very upset by the rest of us who are usually (in the eyes of the EXO) screwing things up. An EXO’s eyes may leave you cold or puzzled. They may be looking right at you, and then their gaze will stop…just short of engaging you. They are observing everything, analyzing, taking it all in and “putting it on a “map” or a “grid”. People often wonder, what’s going on behind those eyes.
Lets begin finding truth through biology instead of the usual manner of traditional body language and behavior... Seems fitting that our first posting be about our President Elect, Barak Obama. This will be a quick teaser-there is so much to say-if I said it all now, your hair might hurt... This is new for all of you. If you didn't learn this from Dr. Mark or I, you've never seen it before...
Obama is EXO. Watch him as he speaks to us. He is direct, logical, pragmatic, and no-nonsense. He's not into small talk. All of his conversations are purposeful. Other famous EXOs include Clint Eastwood, George Carlin, Lucy Lui, Uma Thurman, Tiger Woods, Robert DeNiro, and Scarlett Johansson.
Lets play a game...Of these 4 Domains, what do you think our Vice President Elect, Joe Biden is? Let me give you a hint. Is his social nervous system more like:
Al Gore? Bill Clinton? Hillary Clinton? George W Bush?
You know, after a bit of practice (identification of the domains), it only takes 4 seconds to profile someone! As we follow and discuss politics and politicians (and domains), you can't help but learn the art of profiling-it's a lovely side effect!
